Hyperia City, Disney Lorcana's 14th set, is less than a week away. On October 8 Ravensburger posted two pieces on the official site that matter if you plan to play it early: the prerelease guide and the set release notes. The dates hold: prerelease events at game stores on Friday, October 16, and general release on the 23rd. French retailers such as LorenZone list the same schedule, so players in Europe can plan around those days.
What's in the prerelease box and how events run
The box is sold at the store on the day, and the official guide gives no price, so ask when you register. According to Ravensburger, it contains:
- Six Hyperia City booster packs.
- Four damage dice.
- One random promo card.
- A map of the city as a keepsake.
The main format is sealed: open all six packs and build a 40-card deck on the spot. You can mix as many inks as you like and the four-copy limit does not apply. The guide also covers Pack Rush, a quick format using just two packs: a 24-card deck, an opening hand of five instead of seven, and the first player to 15 lore wins. Seats are booked through tcg.ravensburgerplay.com, the official event locator.
The new rules: ink drops and Adventurous
The headline mechanic is ink drops. They are not cards in your deck but counters: when a card gives you one, you keep it next to your inkwell and can spend it as one ink towards any cost. Unlike ink cards, they are not exerted; they are used once and removed. There is no cap on how many you hold, and if you lack the printed ones found in packs, a die or any marker will do.
There is also a new keyword, Adventurous: a character with it can't challenge and must quest each turn if able. Five older cards that spelled this out in full, including Ariel – Curious Traveler and Gaston – Frightful Bully, now use the keyword with no change in function. Stone by Day returns from Whispers in the Well as well.
The Comprehensive Rules move to version 2.3 with two changes you will notice at the table. "Enters" effects now apply as the card comes into play. And when a character gains a keyword it already has, the longer-lasting instance is the one that counts. Jukebox gets an erratum so a song cannot count itself on the turn it is played.
What it means for collectors
The prerelease is your first chance to open Hyperia City, a week before everyone else, and a chance to take home one of its promo cards. If you collect, hang on to the printed ink drop tokens: they are a brand-new component and nobody knows yet whether they will appear again. You can already browse the full card list and prices for every set in our Lorcana set pages, see what else is coming this autumn in the release calendar, and catch up on the set and Lorcana's 2027 numbered cards in our first Hyperia City story.
