How to move your Deckbox inventory to TCGJoin: export a CSV with the Scryfall ID

This article was drafted by an artificial intelligence system and reviewed by the TCGJoin editorial team before publication. It may contain errors: double-check prices, dates and rules before acting on it.

Deckbox has kept Magic inventories for years. Exporting yours to CSV and loading it into TCGJoin takes a couple of minutes; the trick is ticking the Scryfall ID column.

Deckbox is one of the veteran sites for keeping a Magic inventory and arranging trades. If you have years of cards logged there, there is no need to start over: Deckbox exports the inventory to CSV and TCGJoin reads it directly. What you gain on the other side is your collection’s value in euros, the set-by-set album and the phone scanner for anything new.

What you need

  • Your Deckbox account with the Inventory up to date.
  • A TCGJoin account (the free one is fine).
  • A desktop browser: the Deckbox export is done on the website.

Get the file out of Deckbox

  1. On deckbox.org open your Inventory.
  2. Click Export → CSV. In the extra-columns window, tick “Scryfall ID” if it is offered.
  3. Download the file: that is the one you will upload to TCGJoin.

The Scryfall ID is not required, but it helps a lot: Deckbox writes the set with its long name, and some names do not match the catalogue letter for letter. With the ID the card is identified with no room for error; without it we match on set name and number, and the few that do not line up appear as unsure for you to choose.

If the screen goes blank when you click Export, try another browser or another network: on the Deckbox forum users put it down to firewalls blocking the download.

Upload it to TCGJoin

With the file at hand, open your collection and tap “Import”. The same wizard lives in Profile › Settings › “Import my collection”. It takes four steps:

  1. Source: pick “Deckbox”.
  2. File: upload it as is (CSV, TSV, TXT or JSON, up to 20 MB). No need to open or tidy it first.
  3. Review: every row lands in a group. Found (matched with no doubt by set and number), unsure (several printings share that name: pick one or accept the suggestion), not found, and skipped (proxies, quantity 0 or a game outside your plan).
  4. Import: choose whether to add to what you already have or keep the file quantity, and hit the button.

If something looks off, the import can be undone for 7 days, from the final screen or from Profile › Settings. It removes exactly the copies it added and leaves what you already owned untouched.

What comes across and what does not

From the Deckbox CSV the importer uses what identifies the card, how many you own and the language. The rest stays in the file for now:

  • Comes across: the exact card (set and number when the file has them), the quantity and the language of each copy.
  • Not yet: condition (NM, LP…), foil and purchase price. Copies arrive as non-foil; keep the original file if you care about those details.
  • Common plan: one active game. If the file mixes games, cards from the others are skipped and the review tells you which. Importing is free on every plan.
  • Nothing you already had is overwritten: by default quantities are added.

If something is not found

“Not found” rows are the ones that do not match the catalogue with the data in the file: almost always editions named differently on Deckbox, old promos or rows without a collector number. In the review, tap “Download the not found rows (CSV)” to keep the list. Then run them through the Magic card scanner: point the camera and they go into the collection one by one, with their exact printing. If it is your first time, the guide on how to scan cards with your phone covers it in two minutes.

If a whole column is the problem (the review flags the columns it did not understand), tell us from the suggestions box in the help bubble and we will add it.

With the inventory in, your collection tells you what it is worth and what you are missing from each of the Magic sets. The rest of the supported apps are on Import collection, and the Magic hub brings together prices, decks and news.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Deckbox tradelist or wishlist imported?

No: the importer reads the inventory, which is what you own. The tradelist and wishlist stay on Deckbox.

Do I lose anything in Deckbox by exporting?

No. Exporting only writes a copy to a file: your collection stays as it is in Deckbox and you can keep using both apps.

What if I import the same file twice?

With “Add to what I already have” the quantities would double. To repeat without duplicates choose “Keep the file quantity”, or undo the first import: you can for 7 days.

Does it work without the Scryfall ID column?

Yes, with the set name and number. Some cards may just show up as unsure and you will need to confirm the printing.
