The Warhammer 40,000 Commander decks, Magic's first preconstructed crossover with another franchise, are being printed again. Wizards of the Coast confirmed it to IGN on October 8, after a store employee posted on r/MTGRumors that their distributor was already taking orders. The official answer was brief: a "small" reprint has been made, it will reach distributors and stores soon, and availability may vary by region.
Which decks are back and what they cost today
These are the four decks from October 2022, each built around one faction and one commander:
- Forces of the Imperium, led by Inquisitor Greyfax.
- Necron Dynasties, led by Szarekh, the Silent King.
- Tyranid Swarm, led by The Swarmlord.
- The Ruinous Powers, led by Abaddon the Despoiler.
Each one launched at $59.99. Going by the US market prices gathered by MTG Rocks, a sealed deck now costs from about $230 (The Ruinous Powers) to $356 (Necron Dynasties). Some singles that were only ever printed in these decks, such as Ghyrson Starn, Kelermorph or Cryptothrall, sit at around $30.
What Wizards has not said
The confirmation leaves several questions open. There is no arrival date and no price for the new run. The Collector's Editions, the versions with all hundred cards in surge foil, are not mentioned either, so CGMagazine and MTG Rocks both read it as a no. TheGamer also notes that only three of the four decks first showed up in the ordering system that sparked the rumour; Wizards has not said whether all four will be allocated equally.
For players in Europe, the key line is the regional one: Wizards itself tells stores to check with their distributor. If you want one, the simplest move is to ask your local game store now so they can order as soon as the allocation reaches them.
What it means for your collection
If you want a deck to play, paying the premium for a sealed 2022 copy makes little sense right now: a new run, even a short one, usually trims that price as soon as the product is back on shelves. If you are holding a sealed one as an investment, expect its value to drift down over the coming weeks; how far depends on how small the run really is. The singles exclusive to these decks tend to feel it first. Before you buy or sell, check the full card list and prices for every Magic set and log what you own in your collection to see how its value moves.
